Open Your Hands
Before we can surrender something, we have to recognize we're holding it. Today begins with the courage to look at what we're gripping and trust God enough to open our hands.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”Proverbs 3:5–6 • NIV
What are you still gripping?
There are things we say we've given to God while still holding tightly behind our backs.
The relationship.
The dream.
The timeline.
The finances.
The children.
The opportunity.
The outcome.
We pray about them, but then immediately return to strategizing, worrying, checking, fixing, and trying to control what happens next.
Surrender begins when we become honest about what we're still gripping.
Sit with this.
What are you afraid might happen if you completely release control?
What might your grip reveal about where you're struggling to trust God?
Physically open your hands.
While you pray today, physically open your hands.
Name what you've been gripping and say:
“God, I release ______ to You.”
Don't rush. If several things come to mind, name them individually.
Father,
I open my hands today.
I release what I've been trying to control, fix, force, and carry alone.
Forgive me for the places where fear has made me grip what belongs in Your hands.
Teach me to trust You even when I cannot see what comes next.
I surrender what I love, what I fear, and what I hope for to You.
Amen.
“I can care deeply without carrying what belongs to God.”
You Were Never Meant to Carry Everything
Some burdens were never yours.Tomorrow we'll begin separating genuine responsibility from the weight we've picked up simply because we believed everything depended on us.
